Is Super Tax City Super Tax Shitty?

No, not really. Actually it’s a pretty fun game! For awhile…

He’s the tax man. You see his face? It’s clear. In the Bible he’s deeply despised and he wanted to take almost all of the Beatles money, and now he’s here to be the mascot of an indie game where you have to produce enough wealth to pay taxes to stay in charge of the city. What a turd.
That being said the concept and artwork of this game overall is fairly adorable and it works as a time waster. What it suffers from that keeps it from being a, “Really good,” indie game is a problem largely related to the difficulty as the stages progress.
Playing through the first stage of each of the five levels isn’t exactly a breeze – it took me about a half dozen tries to understand the game mechanics. After I figured out, I breezed through those first stages, and most of the second stages, like a chainsaw through butter. Messy, but effective. It took me about 4 hours to get to this point and I’ll admit to being entirely lazy when I play games, primarily because I just don’t care to learn the ins and outs of games right away.
No, I like to take my time like an idiot. If I can’t figure it out on my own in several hours, or if I don’t find it at all fun to figure out, I’m not interested in that game. If I want to learn, I’ll read a book. I’m here to play a game – doesn’t matter if I’m pewpewing enemies, other players, swinging a giant sword around, trying to run a town, trying to build a banana republic – whatever, doesn’t matter… I ain’t trying to have a deep knowledge on how some game works – especially one that presents itself as this one does.
But that’s beside the point – the difficulty ramp is so extreme that I actually question whether or not it’s possible to beat this game realistically without an extremely lucky pull on the RNG. It is absolutely your enemy in this game. Extreme luck should not be the determining factor in whether or not you can successfully 100% a game.
With all of that on the table, I ended up putting a total of about 10 hours into this game. I’m so tired of looking at the graphics and losing miserably to an RNG that’s having a terrible day, so I’m going to give this one up here. Still, for the cost of entry, the ease of play, and the pleasantness of the graphics, I’m going to give this a soft recommend.
I give it 6 stupid chicken shaped buildings out of 10 fat moron tax men.
